As consumers become increasingly aware of the types of chemicals that enter the bloodstream through skin contact, organic skin care products without harmful and carcinogenic additives are more popular than ever. Pure oils are a cost-effective natural skin care remedy. We’ve come up with a list of 10 that will keep your skin feeling supple and looking great at any age.

1. Jojoba Oil

Jojoba is one of nature’s best oils for skin. Its molecules are small enough to be immediately absorbed directly into the skin without leaving any residue.

Skin Type

Because this oil is relatively light, it makes a great organic skin care solution for dry and oily skin.

Day or Night

Day. Wear it under your SPF foundation, or wear it alone. It makes a great moisturizer for all-day use.

2. Argan Oil

Leading the charge in organic skin care, Moroccan argan oil has first gained popularity in the United States in the hair care field. People are now enjoying the deeply moisturizing properties of the oil for skin. Like jojoba, this natural skin care oil absorbs easily into the skin, making it ideal for helping to cure dry skin and even help with chronic conditions like rosacea.

Skin Type

This oil is also light as well as deeply enriching. It can help with dry skin conditions and when used sparingly is even appropriate for acne-prone skin.

Day or Night

BOTH! It’s an ideal night cream replacement, and it’s light enough to wear under your foundation.

3. Sweet Almond Oil

Commonly used as a base oil for distilled aromatherapy and perfume oils, sweet almond oil can also be a regular part of your organic skin care routine as well. It is rich in vital nutrients and lipids that your skin loves.

Skin Type

Almond oil is heavier than jojoba oil, so it’s best used for more mature skin, or skin that isn’t prone to breakouts. If you have a natural day cream that you like to use, add a drop or two of almond oil to give your skin more moisture.

Day or Night

Both. Apply in heavier doses if you’re using it as a night cream. It will go on a bit heavy, so apply it about 10 minutes before bedtime so it gets absorbed, ditto if you’re wearing it under make up or mixing it up with your other day cream with SPF.

4. Coconut Oil

The body loves coconut oil. Its heavy consistency does make it one of the best oils for skin care. The saturated fats found in coconut oil break the blood-brain barrier, meaning that it sends important fats directly to your brain. It’s also a great additive to your natural skin care routine to keep elbows, knees and heels nice and soft.

Skin Type

If you’re using it on your face or neck, use it sparingly and only if you have older or drier skin. Use it liberally on the body as an organic skin care treatment.

Day or Night

Try swapping out your pricey night cream a few nights a week with coconut oil. It goes on slick, so give it time to absorb before you get dressed or hit the sheets.

5. Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is your best ally and organic skin care treatment for breakouts. Dab some on a cotton swab and gently apply to areas where you’re prone to breakouts. Use a tea tree oil blemish stick to apply directly to stubborn pimples.

Skin Type

Oily or combination. Swipe a saturated cotton ball across your t-zone after you wash. Do this sparingly, and try to focus on those areas only.

Day or Night

Since we’re recommending very localized use for this oil, use it whenever you feel a breakout coming.

6. Olive Oil

Women throughout the Mediterranean have been using this as a natural skin care solution for ages. Use cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil for your skin. This gives more anti-oxidant benefits for an excellent organic skin care routine.

Skin Type

Dry and aging. Olive oil is rich and heavy, so it’s best for skin that needs a lot of TLC.

Day or Night

If you’re over 40, give it a try for both!

7. Sesame Oil

In India, sesame oil is the go-to best oil for skin. It is rich, and has a lovely, nutty smell. It’s also chocked full of anti-oxidants to help ward off aging and even acne.

Skin Type

Sensitive or Dry. Sesame oil is absorbed quickly into the skin, but like olive oil, it is best for people who have dry and aging skin.

Day or Night

Experiment if you’ve got dry and aging skin. We recommend it highly as an alternative for your night cream. Use it liberally all over the body to ramp up your organic skin care regimen.

8. Avocado Oil

Ah, the beauty of pure avocado oil! It’s full of anti-aging properties and free of irritants, making it one of the best natural skin care oils available.

Skin Type

It has balancing properties, so if you have combo skin, give it a try for a day or two. This is one of the best oils for skin for dry skin—slather it on generously!

Day or Night

Depending on your skin type, it may work well as a moisturizer for day. Slather it on at night: one of the best oils for skin to help recharge and renew while you’re sleeping.

9. Grape Seed Oil

Not as popular in the U.S. (yet), grape seed oil still remains a timelessly popular option (like olive oil) in throughout Europe as a natural skin care treatment. It’s slightly astringent so—good news—it works for even acne and breakout prone skin!

Skin Type

All! It’s rich enough for dry skin and, as mentioned about, it is slightly astringent so it will help prevent breakouts.

Day or Night

Day. Use a richer oil (like coconut, olive or almond oil) for nighttime organic skin care.
